Guns Down America issues a scathing response to Supreme Court bump stock ruling
Washington — In the wake of the Supreme Court's ruling against the federal bump stock ban, Guns Down America Executive Director Hudson Munoz released the following statement:
“The decision to allow bump stocks back is not only a direct affront to victims of gun violence, but a chilling message that the highest court in the country believes in enriching the gun industry over ensuring the freedom and safety of us all. The fact that today’s ruling reversing the federal bump stock ban even occurred shows how deeply misaligned the court’s conservative judges are with the rest of the country. Lifting a ban on a piece of equipment that allows a standard rifle to fire 400 to 800 rounds per minute is an entirely dangerous and frankly disturbing decision. The device used to kill 60 people and wounding at least 413 at the 2017 Las Vegas music festival could be back on the market — something I sincerely hope that the majority’s author, Justice Clarence Thomas, considered. Now is certainly not the time to leave the gun lobby unchecked and exempt from consequences for manufacturing and marketing weapons that tear communities apart. If you need a bump stock to shoot an elk—you have no business hunting.”
This decision not only disregards the safety and well-being of American citizens but also undermines the efforts of countless advocates and lawmakers who have fought tirelessly to prevent such tragedies.”
