Guns Down America On The Apalachee School Shooting: Guns Have Stolen the Epicenter of Our Communities
September 4, 2024
We urgently need to change America’s gun culture, so that not another school becomes the site of a mass shooting.
WASHINGTON — In the wake of the tragic shooting at Apalachee High School, Hudson Munoz, executive director of Guns Down America, issued the following statement:
“Schools are public spaces and community centers, where students go to grow and where parents should be able to trust that when they wave goodbye to their kids in the morning, they’ll hug them again in the afternoon. Gun violence tears apart families and devastates communities. Guns Down America is fighting to reclaim our public spaces, and that means it's past time to acknowledge that responsibility lies not only with the individual who pulls the trigger, but also the manufacturers who market, sell, and pump guns into our communities, knowing full well the fatal intent of AR-15 style weapons. During a time of fear and mourning, we encourage our friends and neighbors to reject the fallacy peddled by these manufacturers who claim that our protection depends on their deadly weapons, as we continue to fight for a future with fewer guns.”
