Tell Facebook: Shut Down Marketplace Until You End Gun Sales

A year ago, an alarming report in the Wall Street Journal detailed how sellers are sneaking dangerous firearms onto Facebook’s Marketplace, and we began calling on Facebook to shut down its Marketplace until it can develop a system for ensuring that nobody can sell deadly weapons on its platform ever again.

Facebook Must Take Action

Facebook has done nothing to resolve the problem since then, and it’s even worse today: the Wall Street Journal is reporting that illegal gun sales are now being disguised as gun manufacturer stickers that cost hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars.

Facebook’s complete inability to run a marketplace free of guns is incredibly concerning and puts us all in danger. Facebook is not doing nearly enough to police hate speech and misinformation, and they’re facing scrutiny for it. That’s why now is the moment for us to keep speaking out until they make the changes that are needed to keep us safe from gun violence. We can’t let them keep looking the other way.
