Fuel the movement to take back public life.

Guns Down America is a small team that takes on big challenges and consistently wins. It takes us some time, we have to get scrappy, but we put every one of your dollars to efficient use to fuel our movement to take back public life from the gun industry.

Since 2016, we’ve been on a mission to attack the source of the gun problem: industry. Money talks and we listen to find our own power within the toxic business of guns and devise ways to leverage our influence in the broader business community.

We racked up major wins in 2024:

  • Ending the gun industry banking exception in the three states, including two of the largest economies in the U.S. (California and New York)
  • Launched The Hollow Point, a movement magazine offering critical commentary on gun culture and consumerism from brilliant minds across the country
  • Relaunched Business Must Act to hold the entire business community accountable for progress on gun violence
  • Supported Prop KK, a ballot measure passed by Colorado voters that holds the gun industry accountable for victims services including veterans mental health and support for domestic violence survivors

If you want to see more progress like this, consider donating before the end of the year to have your contribution matched by a generous donor.

We know that gun violence isn’t inevitable. We couldn’t be more thankful for your support in proving that truth.

COLORADO, NEW YORK AND CALIFORNIA MOVE TO REQUIRE USE OF THE GUN STORE MERCHANT CATEGORY CODE THANKS TO ADVOCACY FROM GUNS DOWN AMERICA AND BRADY UNITED

Merchant category codes are part of a standard banking system that can flag suspicious activity. Gun stores have been excluded from this system for too long and after years of work, three states —  including two of the biggest economies in the U.S. — have moved to require use of the code in the state.

LAUNCHED THE HOLLOW POINT: A MOVEMENT MAGAZINE ABOUT GUN CULTURE AND CONSUMERISM

"Gunfluencers," shady lobbying, and businesses profiting from violence. We examine and discuss it all with experts inside and outside of the movement in our new magazine.

RELAUNCH OF THE BUSINESS MUST ACT GUN SAFETY SCORECARD

Back in 2019, we launched a scorecard to explore the connection between the broader business community (read: brands you shop) and the gun violence epidemic. The results helped us with wins like Subway banning open carry and Walmart ending handgun/handgun ammo sales. We’re bringing it back to help you shop your power and put continuous pressure on the business community to do their part to end gun violence.

COLORADO HOLDS GUN INDUSTRY ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR PRODUCT’S HARM

Colorado voters approved Prop KK, a measure that imposes a tax on the gun business to fund a shortfall in funding for crime victims, domestic violence survivors, veterans, and youth mental health
