Days After a School Shooting, Gun Violence Notably Absent From Last Night’s Debate

Following the Apalachee High School shooting, there was no mention of gun violence prevention at Trump-Harris debate

WASHINGTON — In response to Tuesday night’s presidential debate, Guns Down America Executive Director Hudson Munoz issued the following statement:

“Last night when our two presidential candidates took to the debate stage, it had not even been a whole week since a deadly mass shooting at Apalachee High School stole the lives of friends, family, teachers, and classmates. We are appalled that there was not a single question about the candidates' plans to prevent these future acts of terror. We cannot accept the slaughtering of children at the hands of these deadly weapons as a societal norm nor succumb to the fallacy peddled by gun manufacturers that the answer is to arm ourselves. Not putting gun violence prevention center stage at the debate was a missed opportunity and a disservice to voters who are fed up with America’s toxic gun culture.”
