Guns Down America Honors Veterans Through Action on Guns

November 8, 2024

DENVER — Ahead of Veterans Day, Guns Down America affirms solidarity with the brave men and women who have served our country by seeking solutions for the epidemic that endangers their lives at home: gun violence. Guns Down America Executive Director Hudson Munoz, released the following statement:

Seventeen veterans die by suicide each day — over 55% more likely to die by suicide than non-veterans with guns being the method veterans choose over 70% of the time. As our veterans are returning to civilian life and navigate severe mental health challenges, our country neglects to invest in essential social services or protect them from easy access to guns while in vulnerable states. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that those who have served are met with the support and resources they need to heal and thrive. At Guns Down America, we are committed to supporting our veterans by pursuing policies that improve their quality of life and care, building more supportive and connected communities, and pursuing recompense from the industry that profits from putting guns in their hands.”
