WASHINGTON — Tomorrow marks the third anniversary of the 2021 King Soopers shooting in which a gunman opened fire on grocery shoppers in Boulder, Colorado, killing 10 people. Guns Down America Executive Director Hudson Munoz and UFCW Local 7 President Kim Cordova released the following statements.

“On this anniversary, Americans across the country are reminded that we put our lives in danger any time we go out to buy food. At Guns Down America, we’re calling on the nation's leading supermarket chains to do their part to help build a future with fewer guns and safer communities,” said Guns Down America Executive Director Hudson Munoz. “These corporations, like Walmart, Kroger, and Safeway, have a moral responsibility to do everything they can to protect their customers, employees and the communities they serve each and every day. That’s good business.”

“As we remember the horrific events of March 22, 2021 and the senseless murder of ten innocent victims, I am reminded of the heroism of the King Soopers workers, our Local 7 members, law enforcement, and first responders who risked their lives to save customers and the workers at the store,” said UFCW Local 7 President Kim Cordova. “We continue to call on Kroger to put enhanced security in all of their stores, trespass violent customers and protect their workers/our members from the increased crime in the stores. We also call on Kroger to fully fund healthcare for workers, including mental health care, as workers continue to bear the brunt of this violence.”
