New Background Check Bill is Only a Start Toward a Safer Nation

WASHINGTON -- Guns Down America, a bolder, broader movement calling for dramatically fewer guns in America, released the following statement regarding the introduction of H.R. 8, a new background check bill.

“Expanding background checks to all gun purchases is critical. And the good news is, Americans are demanding even more,” said Igor Volsky, Executive Director of Guns Down America. “Last November, Americans voted out dozens of NRA-backed lawmakers, making it clear that they are ready for bolder policies -- like gun licensing and registration -- that will make guns significantly harder to get. With the NRA on the run, there’s no better way for Congress to show that we have turned the page on this issue than by meeting Americans where they are and working to build a future with fewer guns.”
