New Biden-Harris Executive Orders Take Multifaceted Approach to Curb Gun Violence Epidemic

“These measures will save lives - but let's also be clear, we need more than just preparedness for the inevitability of gun violence in our public spaces.”
WASHINGTON — Executive Director Hudson Munoz of Guns Down America, a leading organization behind the creation of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, praises President Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and the Office’s latest executive order and actions.
This new executive order will help improve active shooter drills in schools, combat the emerging threats of machine gun conversion devices and unserialized, 3D-printed firearms, and additional funding for community violence intervention and public safety.
"Americans are fed up with having their freedoms curtailed by fear of violence - we should all feel safe going to everyday places like the grocery store or the park or to school. That's why today, Guns Down America is grateful for the new actions introduced by the Biden-Harris administration to combat emerging firearm threats and improve school-based shooter drills. These measures will save lives - but let's also be clear, we need more than just preparedness for the inevitability of gun violence in our public spaces. We need a clear end to that inevitability. That starts with the Administration's measures targeting the sources of illegal and untraceable firearms and must continue with the Office's continued prioritization of ending toxic gun culture in America and promoting a future free from gun violence.
This nation will not tolerate the unchecked proliferation of guns - the majority of American adults experience stress from the possibility of a mass shooting. There have been at least 50 school shootings in America this year alone—and we live in a country where there are more guns than people. Young Americans shouldn’t have to grow up in a society where school hallways become graveyards and voting feels like a fight for our lives. As the first Sandy Hook shooting survivors turn 18 and cast their ballots this year, the rest of America can never become numb to how horrific gun violence in this country has become. We must continue to fight this senseless epidemic with every tool available to us."
