Multiple players chose gun violence prevention awareness highlighting broad support
WASHINGTON — Guns Down America, one of the nation’s leading gun violence prevention groups, was recently nominated for the NFL My Cause My Cleats campaign in which players have the opportunity to pick a cause that is important to them and represent their chosen organization on custom designed cleats. During Weeks 13 & 14, NFL players wore customized cleats in honor of the causes they have chosen to support. D.J. Montgomery from the Indianapolis Colts chose to support Guns Down America in our mission to take back public life from the gun violence epidemic.
“While gun enthusiasts have long staked their claim on the sporting industry, this move from D.J. Montgomery makes clear that athletes on and off the field can use their influence to reclaim the narrative that every industry has a role to play in ending the gun violence epidemic. Athletes at the highest level are choosing to support gun violence prevention, highlighting a growing and diverse movement to challenge America’s toxic gun culture. Gun violence touches all aspects of our lives—whether we're in grocery stores, classrooms, or sporting events. We all have a right to live free from the fear of gun terror,” said Guns Down America Executive Director Hudson Munoz. “D.J. Montgomery’s support represents the powerful role athletes play in fostering safer communities and initiating dialogue about the urgent need for meaningful change.”
