Ruger Q3 Earnings Soar Amid National Gun Violence Crisis, Highlighting Profit over Public Safety

October 31, 2024

As Sturm, Ruger & Co. reports $122.3 million in net sales, Guns Down America calls out the company's obsession with lifelong customer retention despite the tragic toll of gun violence.

WASHINGTON — This morning, American gun manufacturer Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (Ruger), held their third-quarter earnings call amid a nationwide gun violence epidemic. The violent events their weapons were implicated during these months casts a dark shadow over  the $122.3 million in net sales Guns Down America's executive director, Hudson Munoz, released the following statement:

"There is blood on Sturm Ruger’s profits. During today's call, Ruger President and CEO Christopher Killoy said, 'It's incumbent upon us to turn those first-time buyers into life-long customers.' To Ruger, a ‘lifelong customer’ means someone stockpiling guns —an utter contradiction to their ‘personal protection’ marketing. In reality, every lifelong customer of this industry is a threat to themselves and others.

“This quarter, Ruger continued to make money while the rest of us survived  violence caused by their customers, from police shootouts to loaded guns in classrooms and escalating road rage. Ruger executives speak about brand loyalty and refuse to acknowledge the human cost -  the lives lost, injuries sustained, and the trauma inflicted on people and communities coast-to-coast.

“If you want to know why the gun violence epidemic persists, look no further than gunmakers like Sturm Ruger.”
