Smith & Wesson's Q2 Profits Reveal a Deadly Marketing Strategy Amid America's Gun Violence Crisis

December 6, 2024

As Smith & Wesson reports $129.7 million in net sales, Guns Down America calls out the company's emphasis on cheap firearms in response to a decreased demand.

WASHINGTON — Last night, Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc. (Smith & Wesson), held its second-quarter 2025 earnings call amid a nationwide gun violence epidemic. The company noted its $129.7 million in net sales came below expectations. However, this didn’t stop executives from highlighting an increase of $4.7 million due to their profit-driven strategy of flooding the market with cheap firearms, which we know they do by glorifying deadly weapons. In response, Guns Down America Executive Director Hudson Munoz released the following statement:

“The fact a gun manufacturer has earnings calls at all is terrifying enough, and Smith & Wesson's business strategy underlines that. They are flooding our communities with cheap firearms and a healthy dose of fear and division along with them. Don't forget that most crime guns are legally manufactured — they double-dip when their guns are used in crimes and they tell us to buy another to protect ourselves.

This business model doesn't just sustain America's gun violence crisis—it thrives on it. Smith & Wesson executives speak of profits but refuse to acknowledge the human cost of their products. They flaunt their success as though it's separate from the homicides, road rage incidents, domestic violence and robberies in which their firearms are the common denominator."
